About Us

Becoming a Follower of Jesus

Is this is a cult?

Is the Tribe of Jesus traditional Christianity simply presented in another form?

Then what is the Tribe of Jesus in a couple of sentences?

Why do you use the term "Tribe"?  Aren't you just another church?

Aren't you just trying to convert me or have God control my life?

So as a skeptic, atheist, or someone who has been deeply hurt by the church, would I be welcomed by the Tribe?

I'm a "Christian", would I be welcomed by the Tribe of Jesus?

A Prayer of Jesus for You:

"Father, it's time.  Display the bright splendor of your Son,  So the Son in turn may show your bright splendor.  You put him in charge of everything human,  So he might give real and eternal life to all in his charge.  And this is the real and eternal life:  That they know you, The one and only true God,  And Jesus Christ, whom you sent.

...For the message you gave me, I gave them;  And they took it, and were convinced that I came from you.  They believed that you sent me.   I pray for them.   I'm not praying for the God-rejecting world, but for those you gave me, For they are yours by right.  Everything mine is yours, and yours mine,  And my life is on display in them.   For I'm no longer going to be visible in the world; They'll continue in the world, while I return to you.  Holy Father, guard them as they pursue this life that you conferred as a gift through me, so they can be one heart and mind as we are one heart and mind.  As long as I was with them, I guarded them in the pursuit of the life you gave through me;

I gave them your word;  The godless world hated them because of it, Because they didn't join the world's ways,  Just as I didn't join the world's ways.  I'm not asking that you take them out of the world but that you guard them from the Evil One.  They are no more defined by the world than I am defined by the world.  Make them holy--consecrated-with the truth; Your word is consecrating truth.  In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world.

The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind-- Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, So they might be one heart and mind with us.  Then the world might believe that you, in fact, sent me.  The same glory you gave me, I gave them, So they'll be as unified and together as we are-- ...Then they'll be mature in this oneness,  And give the godless world evidence that you've sent me and loved them in the same way you've loved me.  Father, I want those you gave me to be with me, right where I am, So they can see my glory, the splendor you gave me, having loved me long before there ever was a world. ...I have made your very being known to them-- Who you are and what you do-- And continue to make it known, So that your love for me might be in them exactly as I am in them."

Recorded in the ancient writings of John, a Follower of Jesus, in the first Tribe of Jesus.  To read more look in the Christian Scriptures in the Gospel of John, Chapter 17

  • Is this a cult?  No, not even close.  We serve no kool-aid, do not ask you to leave your family or friends, or believe in the healing powers of a crystal or alien entity.

  • Is the Tribe of Jesus traditional Christianity simply presented in another form?  That depends on what you consider "traditional Christianity"..  Many Christians and churches do a lot of good in people's lives and their community.  But most of those in the Tribe would not like to be labeled as being "evangelical", "the religious right", or any other misleading cultural label. Please see our Beliefs page.

  • What is the Tribe of Jesus in a couple of sentences?  We are a community of friends striving to understand and follow the life changing message of Jesus into our daily lives, our relationships with others, and our care for those in the world.  We desire to be, as Jesus was, a relevant part of our community, outside the accepted religious culture of the day.

  • Why do you use the term "Tribe"?  Aren't you just another church?   In American Christianity today many people "go to church" instead of "being the church." Most Christians attend a worship service to receive something, a service, from an authoritative professional clergy person.  In the Tribe of Jesus we know that when we gather together, each person has something of value to share with the group and to present to God.  Think about it; What are the relationships in an aboriginal or native Tribe?  How does this community function?  Within a tribe, people know each other well - their good and bad sides, their strengths and weakness.  This is what Jesus desired for the Tribe who Follows him.  In a Tribe of Jesus people will know each other well enough to celebrate the joys of life and to support one another through struggles.  The people of the Tribe use their skills and talents to bring goodness to each other, teach the realities of life, and strive to protect one another from poor choices and the destructive actions of others.  So, to answer the question, in many ways no we are not "just another church", but we are a family of Christ Followers that you will find in many other churches.

  • Aren't you just trying to "convert" me or have God control my life?  No, as a human being, no one has the power to "convert" you and God does not control you.  Only you are able to make the personal choices that benefit your life and those around you.  We do believe in Jesus as God in human form - that's really bizarre and life changing when you seriously think about it.  Our desire is to help each other know the reality of Jesus within His historical and culturally reality - and how that reality has relevance for our life today.  We believe in a spiritual realm, outside our knowledge and physical understanding.  As humans we need to humbly admit that there is someone greater, someone beyond what we are - this someone is God.  As spiritual beings, we need to discover and believe that our life now and forever is better when we have a loving and trusting relationship with God.  The journey to that place of belief and trust in the revolutionary teachings of Jesus is different for every person.  We in the Tribe would love to join you on that path of questioning and discovery.  Being a Follower of Jesus is not something you inherit from your parents, it is not simply saying a prayer or accepting a list of doctrinal beliefs.  In American culture and within the church it is too easy to become or to be identified as a Christian.  What we do desire for you is to know the reality of God, be connected with His Spirit which we believe benefits you now and forever.

  • So, as a skeptic, atheist, or someone who has been deeply wounded by the church, would I be welcomed by the Tribe?   Most definitely Yes!!  Jesus was hanging out at a party with Matt, a new Follower of Jesus.  Matt was seen as a spiritual outcast by the popular and accepted religious types of the day.  Matt's friend's at the party were also seen as "sinners" and outcasts from society.  The "pastors" of the day criticized Jesus for hanging out with such "scum" and heretics.  This is how Jesus responded to their mean spirited remarks and attitude of these "pastors" : "Healthy people don't need a doctor, sick people do.  Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: 'I want you to be merciful: I don't want your sacrifices.'  For I have come to call sinners, not those who think they are already good enough."

  •  I'm a "Christian", would I be welcomed by the Tribe of Jesus?  Once again, most definitely Yes!!  We would love for you to attend a Gathering and talk with you about your spiritual journey.  We can meet later and talk with you about how the Tribe approaches spiritual life and community.
