Good & Evil; Now here's a crucial topic when it comes to understanding your relationship with God. - Northern Ireland; Protestants and Catholics carry centuries of hatred toward each other resulting in occasional attacks and killings. - India; Hindus amd Muslims attack and kill each other at their places of worship. - Central & South America; Marxist guerillas kidnap and murder Christian missionaries working to improve the lives of indigenous people groups. - U.S.A.; Islamic terrorists kill close to 3,000 Americans and other foreign nationals when they attack the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the hijacked airplanes on 9/11. - Priests and Ministers are convicted of child molestation, embezzlement of funds, & adultery across America. - Church members shout terms of hatred towards people at a gay pride parade. - Neighbors despise one another because of their political views. REFLECT In your life have you ever had thoughts of anger towards another? Have you ever said anything or acted inappropriately toward someone that caused them pain either physically or emotionally? In your thoughts have you ever looked at or thought about someone in a manner that you would be cause you shame if it was known by others. Whether it's genocide or political hatred, it all begins with an individual and a choice they have made. People are capable of great compassion and self sacrifice to help their neighbors and others across the globe. Therefore, would you agree that every person on earth, including yourself, has an intrinsic good and bad part of their being? If that's true and if you believe in a God who is good and just, then what is the relationship you should have with a loving God to further the good characteristics within you and suppress the bad? Jesus gave us an example of this when he saved an adulterous woman from an angry mob and forgave her sin. Relating sin to darkness Jesus said to the people, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." Trying to find excuses for those who commit painful actions on others doesn't help those whom are hurt - or the one committing the offense. Not allowing consequences to exist for the offender is not just in this world and in the afterlife. Providing a place of healing and protection for those hurt is what we seek after and work for. Helping to restore the victim and the reform the offender benefits us all as a community. This same is true for us as a people in our spiritual lives. As failed human beings we relate to a Holy God. There are consequences in our spiritual lives because of our wrong and destructive choices. God however is the ultimate healer, protector, and restorer of people's lives! God made this known to humanity in many ways, but most powerfully through the life of Jesus. God's healing, love, and justice is found through the words and actions of Jesus and in Jesus' unjust crucifixion for the consequences of everyone's destructive and evil choices. Jesus confronted and opposed those who used religion or their own selfish desires to ignore the reality of their true human nature and the choices they make. Jesus provided forgiveness and direction to those who honestly admitted to the crap in their lives. How about you?
