Faith, a dictionary's definition: "faith - a belief and strong conviction in something for which there is no proof." I don't know about you, but having the faith defined above is simply foolish and dangerous. Unfortunately, many people apply this definition to the Christian faith. The faith that God desires is one based on relationship and trust, like between a parent and child or best friends. What things or people do you place faith in that you have incomplete knowledge of? If you reject Jesus and the belief of His Followers because some questions remain unanswered, then isn't it true that you should reject all other religions and even your own beliefs. There are however many answers to our questions. As a Follower of Jesus my faith in Jesus is founded upon historical and scientific evidence covering centuries of investigation and validation. Are you willing to apply the same level of proof and examination to your spiritual beliefs and your beliefs about God and Jesus? Lee Strobel, a current Christian writer, educated at Yale Law School was an award winning legal editor for the Chicago Tribune. Lee identified himself as an atheist and was critical of "Jesus people" with their superstitious faith. Lee's wife then began attending church and following Christ. Lee saw the reality and evidence of her changed life through her relationship with Jesus Christ. He then decided to challenge his wife's beliefs in Jesus by using his legal and investigative skills to expose Jesus as a fraud. However, through his extensive research and examination of the claims of Christ, Lee himself found belief in Jesus and became a Follower of Christ. The result of his investigation and journey to Christ is found in a book, The Case for Christ. Lee has also written another book called The Case for Faith. So I ask you to reflect upon this, "To whom and what do you base your spiritual beliefs upon?" Followers of Christ are not brain washed, ignorant, unthinking zealots willing to accept stories and hearsay to support their beliefs. How much of what you believe spiritually and believe about Jesus is based upon the stories and hearsay of your friends and culture? Followers of Christ do not have the answers to every theological question regarding the nature of of our world and society, do you? However, Followers of Christ have found enough answers in the person and life of Jesus to trust their life now and eternally to Him. We would love to dialogue with you about any question you have regarding finding meaning and purpose in our life. Please contact us at tribeofjesus@csbc.com . Like Lee Strobel, 2,000 years ago an educated and intelligent opponent of Jesus, Paul, had his life changed when he discovered the reality of Jesus. Paul, like Lee, helped others discuss and discover for themselves the life changing power of Jesus. Please read below. Acts 17:22-28 22So Paul took his stand in the open space at the Areopagus and laid it out for them. "It is plain to see that you Athenians take your religion seriously. 23When I arrived here the other day, I was fascinated with all the shrines I came across. And then I found one inscribed, TO THE GOD NOBODY KNOWS. I'm here to introduce you to this God so you can worship intelligently, know who you're dealing with. 24"The God who made the world and everything in it, this Master of sky and land, doesn't live in custom-made shrines 25or need the human race to run errands for him, as if he couldn't take care of himself. He makes the creatures; the creatures don't make him. 26 …He made the entire human race and made the earth hospitable, with plenty of time and space for living 27so we could seek after God, and not just grope around in the dark but actually find him. He doesn't play hide-and-seek with us. He's not remote; he's near. 28For in him we live and move and exist. As one of your own poets says, `We are his offspring.' |
